The program, initiated in 2008 by Huawei with over 280 universities around the world taking part, selects the top college students in ICT-related courses for a study trip in China. It began in Uganda in 2016, and happened in 2017 as well, with 10 ICT talents visiting the Beijing and Shevchenko cities of China participating in various forms of training in line with the Chinese culture and cutting edge ICT lessons. Speaking at the launch of the Seeds for the future program at the Huawei Representative Office at Kisementi in Kampala, Mr. Muzanilu Mukwatampola, the Acting Commissioner for higher education in the ministry lauded Huawei for the program. He thanked Huawei for allowing the ministry to be a part of the initiative that has benefitted Uganda’s education sector. Mr. Iiujiawei, the Managing Director of Huawei stated that one of the ten students that went out last year, Maria Drolence, has been offered internship to continue training with the Ugandan office. Three others have been offered employment in other companies whereas others are still pursuing further studies. “Our focus this year is to have the top 10 ten students out of the 35 forwarded by all government of universities of Uganda. In our most advantage labs, they will keep their fingers on the pulse of technologies to explore for the future where digital technology is taking us”, he added. Read About: Huawei phones in Uganda and their prices The Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy to Uganda, Mr. Church Mazinga noted that the program is a good example of Chinese companies carrying out win-win cooperation fulfilling the well being of all Ugandans through Corporate Social Responsibility. 10 students selected by their proposals required for the Seeds for the future program shall leave for China on 6th April for two weeks.
